ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE – Menu and Discussion Panelists

Accidental Records presents a new one-off collaboration between musicians, food writers and chefs as MATTHEW HERBERT joins forces with chef ROSIE SYKES and pop-dining legends SHACKLEWELL NIGHTS / HIDDEN DINING to present ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE.

This inter-disciplinary venture is the latest instalment of Herbert’s ONE PIG project, in which he recorded the life of a single animal from birth to plate, before turning it into an acclaimed album.

Taking place in an intimate space in East London, ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE invites guests to encounter ONE PIG through debate, sound and taste.

To explore ONE PIG’s food and farming themes, the event will start with a panel discussion between Matthew Herbert, legendary food writer MATTHEW FORT (The Guardian), FIRE & KNIVES proprietor TIM HAYWARD, and another soon-to-be announced special panelist.

Guests will then hear ONE PIG, played live. The show features the StyHarp, a brand-new, pig pen-shaped musical instrument which literally plays the sound of ONE PIG’s existence and adds visual drama to its narrative.

The evening will end with a three course meal including pork from the original ONE PIG farm. Food will be cooked by The Guardian’s Kitchen Doctor and author of The Kitchen Revolution, Rosie Sykes, and presented by Shacklewell Nights.

The menu for the evening will be

Pork Rillettes, Cornichons and Sourdough Bread
Roast Pork Loins & Legs & Braised Shoulders with Lentils & Mustard
Bitter Winter Leaf  Salad
Apple Crumble & Clotted Cream

£57.00 Standard

ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE

We are pleased to announce  our collaboration with Matthew Herbert, Rosie Sykes and Accidental Records on ONE PIG , DEAD AND ALIVE on Thursday 15th December 2011

ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE will be the official London launch of Herbert’s acclaimed ONE PIG album, on which he documents the journey of a single anonymous farm animal from birth to plate. It has been hailed by reviewers since its release, with ClashMusic awarding the album a rare 10/10 and DrownedInSound calling ONE PIG “a fascinating journey from someone at the top of his craft“.

The evening will begin with a short introduction and debate between Herbert, Tim Hayward (Guardian, Fire & Knives) and soon-to-be-announced special guests.

Then Herbert’s band, recently returned from touring in Europe and Japan, will bring ONE PIG to life in a live performance centering on the StyHarp, a new instrument which plays and manipulates the samples used to make the album.

After listening to ONE PIG’s life, guests will sit down to a three course pop-up restaurant meal in which, among other things, pork from the same family as ONE PIG will be offered. The ONE PIG, DEAD AND ALIVE restaurant is presented by Rosie Sykes (St Johns Restaurant, Sutton Arms) and Claire Roberson from Shacklewell Nights.

We are proud to announce that Shacklewell Nights in partnership with the Auchentoshan presents series will be appearing for one night on Thursday 18th August 2011 at Ruby House in Dalston.

Auchentoshan is continuing its series of events and collaborations
with creatives that like to do things differently with Auchentoshan Presents…Shacklewell Nights.

A hidden dining experience in the heart of Dalston, where guests will be treated
to impromptu whisky tastings and a four-course menu of carefully sourced local and seasonal ingredients. Each of the dishes served at the dinner will complement or incorporate Auchentoshan as an integral part of the dish. The whisky’s triple distillation gives it its smooth and delicate flavour which makes it ideal to create harmony between the flavours so the food doesn’t overpower the whisky and vice versa.
